Looking for Volunteers? Two Great Opportunities to Find Them

Nevada Co. Reads & Writes Event and VolunteerNevadaCounty.org

Volunteers who donate their expertise, skills and time are the lifeblood of nonprofit organizations, from the community animal shelter to performing and visual arts groups. But connecting volunteers – from teenagers to seniors – with organizations can be difficult. group

CNL would like to share two opportunities that can do just that!

Nevada County Reads & Writes (NCRW) is the annual community reads program in Nevada County. This year’s book selection, Trash by Andy Mulligan, has many themes, but one predominant theme concerns volunteerism and helping others. The main public event for NCRW will reflect that. The Foothills Event Center has generously donated their space on Wednesday evening, March 11 for the celebration of reading and volunteerism in our community.

Local nonprofits are being invited to host tables that offer information about their organizations, particularly volunteer opportunities. There is no charge for nonprofits, and the event is free to the public. During the month of April, the Library will be tallying volunteer hours done in the “name” of NCRW and working towards a goal, so this is a great way to connect people with organizations.

Set-up will be at 5 PM, with the event running from 5:30 to 7. Tables will be provided so nonprofits can just show up, put out promotional materials, eat some free refreshments, and talk to people about their volunteer opportunities. There will be a short fashion show by Haute Trash, but plenty of time for people to mingle.

Please contact Laura Pappani, County Librarian (530.265.7078) ASAP if you are interested in participating or have any questions.

Another, ongoing way to continue to find and engage volunteers is through RSVP of Nevada County, a CNL member organization. They connect residents looking for volunteer opportunities with nonprofits in the region. RSVP recently debuted their website VolunteerNevadaCounty.org. The matchmaking site benefits nonprofits, which are always looking for help, and residents of all ages who are seeking meaningful volunteer efforts to improve the quality of life in Nevada County.

Executive directors and staff along with potential volunteers can learn more about RSVP by calling 530.271.0255 or visiting online at volunteernevadacounty.org.

We here at CNL hope these effort toward more volunteerism in our community prove fruitful for both residents and organizations alike.
