Purpose:
Child Advocates helps children grow up safely, securely, and ready for the future.

Funding:
We depend on the community’s support through individual donations, purchases at our annual See’s Candy Sales at Easter and Christmas, and participation or sponsorship in our Children for Children Concert February 12, 2017. About 80% of our services are supported by contracts, the remaining $200,000 comes from donors and events.

How we have benefited from being a member of CNL:
CNL has helped us at every step. Their trainings and workshops are always relevant and we apply what we learn. They are a great way to connect with other non-profits. CNL sets the bar high and walks their talk. It has been great to have them as a role model and a resource. There is so much advice out there for non-profits, and it is nice that they are right in our backyard and eager to meet our local needs.

Success Story: How has your organization benefited the community?
Our CASAs help children see their potential – they build on their child’s strengths. One of our CASAs is helping a child adjust to a new preschool after being dismissed from several other daycares for aggressive behavior. The CASA is helping this child as he is navigating this new world and helping him work through yet another transition by strengthening his impulse control and teaching him what is expected of him at school. The CASA has given this child a chance to succeed. He is helping him get ready for kindergarten. Nothing is worse than being a child in kindergarten that is always in trouble – you can’t learn, or even worse you learn to fail. We need to start early to help children succeed. All our staff and volunteers help children see the world differently and embrace new possibilities so they can contribute to our community in a meaningful way. We help children (and parents too!) who have been traumatized by abuse or neglect know they matter and they can make a difference. As we advocate we provide nurturing and support that shows each child that they are worthy of respect. We do the same for our home visiting families so they can become the parents they know their children deserve. One of the mothers enrolled in the FTHB home visitation program says it best, “It’s hard to imagine it getting any better! My home visitor has been great – always flexible with work schedule, location changes, and adaptable in response to my changing needs (job loss, housing loss, relationship issues, significant depression, education in child development) every step along the way! I love her and so does my daughter.” We appreciate all the generous support of our donors and sponsors who provide crucial support to Child Advocates. We invite others to learn more about our agency and our work to support Nevada County’s most vulnerable children by visiting our website or calling our office.
