Founded:    1993

Purpose:      Our vision is that all children in Nevada County grow up in a safe, nurturing, and healthy environment.

Funding:
We have multiple funding streams – the State of California – Judicial Council and the Administrative Office of the Courts, First 5, Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention funds, Child Abuse Prevention Community Based Organization, Welz Family Children’s Foundation, Ghidotti Foundation, Kerby Foundation, Walton Grizzly Lodge/Stein Family Foundation, Dignity Health, United Way.  Some of our funding comes from our See’s Candies sales, and a portion comes from business and private donors in the community to whom we are deeply grateful.

How we have benefited from being a member of CNL:
CNL provides wonderful trainings to assist with organizational and professional development as well as great networking opportunities.  These resources have helped us normalize and understand our challenges and determine solid strategies for change.

How our organization has benefited the community:
Because of the confidential nature of the work we do we cannot relay personal stories about the children our CASA Advocates serve.  We also protect the privacy of our home visiting clients.  CASA’s improve the lives and outcomes for children in a myriad of ways. One CASA wrote a grant to obtain a laptop computer for a teen; one helped a child raise her math grade from an F to an A. One sounded the alarm when a child was directed to be placed with a parent he’d never met; one questioned the necessity of another psychotropic medication being prescribed. One helped find a relative for a child to live with after his parent died; one brought the only Christmas present the child would receive. All listened and learned a child’s story, all built a relationship and showed a child that he or she matters, has a voice, and deserves to be heard. All made careful assessments and recommendations  in an effort to provide what the child specifically needed. All acted as the eyes and ears of the court to gather information, monitor the child’s safety, permanence and well-being, and by doing so, contributed substantively to the child’s future and ultimately the future of  our collective community.
