Mission Statement:
The Center for the Arts is a cultural and educational organization that promotes and presents literary, visual, & performing arts for the enrichment of our community.  Although our community has a number of arts organizations, the Center is the only one that offers such a wide array of events to a broad demographic of Nevada County, regional residents and visitors.  The Center typically hosts more than 150 performances and events a year, serving 50,000 people annually, and reaching audiences of all ages. Seventy percent of the Center’s patrons are from Nevada County with about 30% distributed among Placer County, Sacramento County, Tahoe, Reno and the Bay Area.

Success Story:
The Center has become a leading Northern California arts organization committed to bringing a diverse array of programming to western Nevada County. Events feature: music, dance, theater, film, visual arts, comedy, youth arts education and literature. In 2018, the Center commenced a major renovation to expand and update virtually every aspect of the building.

Upon reopening in late-2019, patrons will enjoy a theater with a stage large enough to accommodate performances by groups as small as a single artist or as large a a full orchestra. Other enhancements include a world-class sound system, including a copper loop system for the hearing-impaired, and comfortable, flexible seating that can be configured in cabaret style for audiences of about 300, traditional theater seating for audiences of 500, and dance concert seating to accommodate more than 700 guests.

The lobby, art galleries, bar and bathrooms are being redesigned and enlarged, creating an exceptional patron experience for all. Additionally, the Center’s Black Box Theater, which seats 90, will continue to operates as an intimate venue for a wide variety of uses. As part of its commitment to the community, the Center provides marketing and production services to support local artists and arts organizations and collaborates with area nonprofits to provide event services and fundraising support.

How our organization benefits from being a CNL member:
Our association with CNL enables The Center to operate in concert with other local nonprofit organizations, stay abreast of important developments in the community and continue to refine our operational and human resources processes through educational programs and interactions with other nonprofit leaders.

How to get involved:
