Mission & Purpose:
The South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL – pronounced circle) unites the community to protect and restore the Yuba River.

Success Story: How SYCRL benefits our community:
The South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL – pronounced circle) was founded in 1983 by grassroots activists determined to protect the South Yuba River from dams. Ultimately, SYRCL won permanent protections for 39 miles of the South Yuba River under California’s Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.

Today, SYRCL is the central hub of community activism to protect, restore, and celebrate the Yuba River watershed. With more than 35 years of achievements, 35,000 members and 1300 active volunteers, SYRCL is doing great things for the Yuba watershed. We are working to restore wild salmon to their native waters. We are restoring Sierra meadows and revitalizing the Lower Yuba River by bringing back native habitat. We are inspiring activism across the globe with our environmental film festival. Together, we are extending our powerful coalition from the Sierra to the sea.

How CNL has helped our organization:
We’ve benefited from numerous trainings,  grant writing assistance  and assistance with event planning and permitting processes.

How to get involved:
Join the Yuba River Clean-up on the 3rd Saturday of September, helping to beautify our Yuba watershed by pitching in to remove a summer’s worth of trash from our community’s waterways.

Join our Restoration Team in improving meadows and riparian areas through invasive week removal, surveying native palsn, and providing field assistance to our scientists.

Join our River ambassador Program, and provide visitors to the South Yuba River State Park with a positive experience and information about river safety, pack-it-in & pack-it-out ethics, and fire awareness.

Join our River Monitoring Team and become a Citizen Scientist, helping to protect the quality of our water by conducting water quality sampling across the Yuba watershed.

Join our Special Events Team in bringing our river community together through special events like State of the Yuba, Wild for the Yuba, and other community gatherings.

Join our Wild & Scenic Film Festival helping to host the largest environmental, adventure and advocacy film festival in the country.
