Mission & Purpose:

Our Mission:
The mission of Nevada County Pets In Need (NCPIN) is to provide financial assistance with pet food and veterinary care to residents of Nevada County.

Our vision:
Nevada County Pets In Need (NCPIN) is guided by the following vision:

  • We strive to ensure that pets in Nevada County have enough to eat and access to veterinary services.
  • Our services are provided to those who are in need.
  • We work with other animal welfare organizations in an environment of respect and collaboration.
  • We remember that pets are our customers.
  • We work in an environment of integrity, stability, and respect for the pets, the people we work with, and the community, and we seek to be an example of these qualities.

Our Values:
Nevada County Pets In Need (NCPIN) strives to maintain the following values:

  • COMPASSION for all animals and humans
  • SERVICES provided promptly to all who are in need
  • TRANSPARENCY in our operations, to all who support and work with us
  • ETHICAL standards upheld in all we do

What is your purpose?
NCPIN started very informally in 2014, by an individual who was concerned about the pets of the homeless people around Grass Valley and Nevada City. Putting that concern into action, thus began the collecting pet food and supplies from the community and handing them out several times a week, and thus was born Nevada County Pets of the Homeless.

In mid 2017, the name was changed to Nevada County Pets In Need, which is representative of the animals we serve. A Board of Directors and an Advisory Board were assembled, and non-profit status as a federal 501(c)3 tax exempt corporation was established.

There have been many changes since 2014, but the one thing that hasn’t changed is the commitment of both the people involved with our organization and the community at large to ensure that no pet goes hungry or lacks the care and companionship they need.

Success Story:
Current Clientele is approximately 50% elderly/fixed income, and approximately 50% low income.

In 2023 NCPIN served 268 pets, (124 clients) with Pet Food Assistance and 73 pets with Veterinarian Care.

How to get involved:

Your gently used items may be donated to the Thrift Shop during regular store hours.
