Mission & Purpose:
The Sierra Foothills Village, serving communities in Nevada County, is a non-profit community-based organization that will help members remain safely and comfortably in their homes and community as they age. It will provide members with access to new and existing programs and services that foster connections to the community, support good health and medical needs, and promote independence and a meaningful life. It is a virtual village, where connections are made between people using a special database and supportive office staff and volunteers.
Our purpose is to allow seniors to age in place. We provide vetted volunteers to help with simple but vital day to day tasks, making it easier for seniors to stay safely and thrive in the homes that they love. We understand that friends and family may no longer be present and vital social connections are lost, allowing us to help seniors reconstitute meaningful social connections. We know that when help is urgently needed, it may not be easy to find resources as easily as it once was, enabling the Village to make sure that important needs aren’t overlooked.
Success Story:
We are on the verge of launching. We are one of more than 400 villages nationwide, all independent and shaped to the needs and cultures of our communities. Villages have been helping people remain in their homes as they age for nearly 20 years. California has more than 65 “virtual” villages and we are proud to be one of them. We hope to partner with local organizations by providing excellent referrals to the many community groups offering existing programs.
How CNL has helped our organization:
We have attended trainings. We are in the process of hiring an Executive Director and hope that our ED will find friendship, professional connections and support in CNL.
How to get involved:
We are looking for volunteers, potential members (we hope to launch in the next few months), professionals and others who wish to join our vetted provider list and, of course, people with altruism in their hearts who wish to help with leadership.
